The School of Engineering consists of the following 4 departments:

| 3. What degrees does the Department of ECE offer? |
The department offers Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.), Master of Science (M.Sc.), and Doctorate (Ph.D.) degrees in Electrical Engineering and B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Engineering. |

| 4. Is the School of Engineering at the University of Cyprus related or part of the new Cyprus University of Technology? |
No. The University of Cyprus and the Cyprus University of Technology are unrelated and independent. However, the Cyprus University of Technology includes recently established departments that are related and to some extend complementary to the departments of the School of Engineering of the University of Cyprus. |

| 5. What is the relationship between the Department of Computer Science of the University of Cyprus and the ECE Department? |
The relationship between the ECE Department and the Department of Computer Science is one of close collaboration. However, the two departments are completely independent. As a matter of fact, the Department of Computer Science is part of a different School, the School of Natural and Applied Sciences. The programs of study in the two areas are different both with regards to courses and research interests. There is, naturally, some overlap between Computer Engineering and Computer Science. |

| Undergraduate Admissions FAQ |

| 1. What is the duration of studies for the undergraduate program? |
The academic year comprises two semesters. Eight semesters are normally required for graduation, but in special cases the duration of studies may be extended to a maximum of twelve semesters. |

| 2. What are the entrance requirements for the undergraduate program? |

| 3. What happens to vacant positions? |
Vacant positions as a result of National Guard enlistment or other reasons are distributed to other candidates based on their score in the entrance examinations during the second round of position distributions, which usually takes place in late August. |

| 4. Can students serving in the National Guard re-apply for admission to the Department based on their previous exams? |
Students who have successfully completed the Group A (Polytechnic) Entrance Exams, but have not yet started their studies because of the required National Guard service, can apply for a position based on their previous exam scores. Admission depends on the availability of positions and the scores of the exams and is determined during the second round of position distributions. |

| 5. Can students who have graduated from the Higher Technical Institute apply for admission to the Department? |
Students who have successfully graduated from the Higher Technical Institute can apply for admission, typically to the 3rd year of an undergraduate program (the precise year depends on the number of courses transfered). | 6. Can students from other universities transfer to the School of Engineering? |
A limited number of students from other universities can apply for transfer to the Department. For more information refer to the Undergraduate Admissions page. |

| 7. What is the tuition for the undergraduate program? |
Tuition totals 1000 Cyprus Pounds per semester for Cypriot students and is paid by the State, provided that students successfully complete their studies each semester. Tuition for foreign students totals 2000 Cyprus Pounds per semester. |

| 8. Are evening classes available? |
Undergraduate courses are generally offered between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. For postgraduate courses, classes are usually in the evening. |

| 9. Is there an option to complete the degree as a part time student? |
There is an option to complete the degree as a part time student (see the undergraduate program of study). It may, however be hard to accommodate working students since classes are not usually available in the evening (see question above). |

| Postgraduate Admissions FAQ |

| 1. What is the duration of studies for the postgraduate programs? |
The typical duration of the M.Sc. degree is 1.5-2 years and of the Ph.D. degree is 3-4 years. The maximum duration allowed for a M.Sc. degree is set by the University regulations and is currently 4 academic years. For the Ph.D. program, the maximum duration is 8 academic years. |

| 2. What are the admission procedures for the postgraduate program? |

| 3. What are the requirements of the postgraduate degrees? |
The requirements for the completion of the M.Sc. degree amount to a total of 90 ECTS units:
1. At least 56 ECTS units of postgraduate-level courses.
2. 4 ECTS units of postgraduate-level seminars.
3. At least 30 ECTS units of an original research study, documented by a M.Sc. thesis.
The requirements for the completion of the Ph.D. amount to a total of 240 ECTS units:
1. At least 56 ECTS units of postgraduate-level courses.
2. 4 ECTS units of postgraduate-level seminars.
3. At least 180 ECTS units of an original research study leading to the Doctoral Thesis.

| 4. What is the tuition for the postgraduate program? |
The total tuition for the M.Sc. degree is 3000 Cypriot Pounds. The total tuition for the Ph.D. degree varies, depending on the duration of the studies and the courses taken. Check the website of Student Affairs for more information) The department offers ample opportunities for paid participation in teaching and research activities to its Ph.D. students (and sometimes M.Sc. students). Additionally, in most of these cases, tuition is either waived (or subsidized), based on the student’s academic performance. |
