INTENT TO HIRE
ONE OR TWO RESEARCH SPECIAL SCIENTISTS POSITIONS

The Departments of Computer Science and Electrical and Computer
Engineering of the University of Cyprus intent to hire one
or two special scientists for the research project MOTIVE
(MObile Terminal Information Value addEd Functionality). The
project will be funded by the E.U.'s IST Programme of FP6
and is expected to start in January 2006. The positions are
initially for six (6) months, with the possibility of renewing
their contract for the two (2) years of the project.
MOTIVE envisions that future mobile terminals will transparently
store, pre-process and upload to the network (for further
processing) historical information about the monitored data.
The main objective of the project is to demonstrate the
value of such concept by enhancing existing processes and
enabling the provision of new context aware services. The
project will investigate three key areas:
- Integrated End-to-End User Experience Monitoring: revealing
terminal, network, service and application performance
as experienced by the end user, so as to aid fault management,
network configuration or even application design corrective
actions.
- Ubiquitous Terminal Assisted Positioning: Exploiting
historical information collected while in idle mode (e.g.
received signal strength from various radio access technologies)
so as to increase the accuracy of positioning techniques,
both outdoors and indoors.
- Anonymous Mobile Community Services: Querying for impersonalized
information that resides in a community of terminals while
respecting user anonymity and privacy. For instance, the
retrieval of road traffic condition as determined by the
terminal velocity in that area.
Suitable candidates should have a first degree in Computer
Science or Engineering, Electrical Engineering or in other
related disciplines. A specialised postgraduate degree in
related fields, previous research experience in related
fields, and participation in funded research projects will
be considered an advantage.
For further information contact
Anyone interested in these positions should send a CV together
with a short description of their research interests and
background (in Greek and/or English), to Christos Panayiotou
([email protected]).
