MULTIOPTI Research Program

Multicasting and groupcasting with physical layer constraints in metropolitan optical networks with mesh topologies

Consortium Partners

The consortium for this proposed project includes the University of Cyprus (Host Organization), the Cyprus Academic Research Institute (a University of Nicosia affiliated Research Organization) (Partner 1 Organization) and SignalGeneriX Ltd (Partner 2 Organization).

University of Cyprus: The University of Cyprus (UCY), located in Nicosia, Cyprus, is the leading research University in Cyprus that aspires to promote scholarship and education standards of excellence through teaching and research. The University of Cyprus and its Office of Sponsored Research have previous experience in managing projects funded by the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation and the European Commission. UCY has received successful competitive research funding that has exceeded the 15 million Euro mark over the 1996-2007 period. Recently, the UCY has revised its research policy in order to increase the efficiency of the University to utilize research funding and opportunities and to better promote research initiatives in Cyprus. Specifically, the host Electrical and Computer Eng. (ECE) department has, in 2003-2007, received several million Euro in research funding and its faculty has published around 90 journal papers, 180 conference papers and 20 patents.

Cyprus Academic Research Institute: The faculty members supporting the School of Sciences at the University of Nicosia are experienced and highly qualified academics. Many of them have industry-related background and/or have worked abroad in other universities. Most of the faculty are also actively engaged in research and have published and continue to publish papers in international scientific journals and conference proceedings. Specifically, the University of Nicosia, through its various representatives, either faculty or staff, is currently involved in local (public and private), EC, national, or international grant programs worth over 10 million Euro. Moreover, they maintain research collaborations and/or links with other universities and institutions in Cyprus and abroad. Research work is carried out in the areas of Optical Networks, Fiber Optics, Wireless Communications and Networks, Signal Processing, and Image Processing, amongst others. The Cyprus Academic Research Institute located at the University of Nicosia has extensive simulation facilities that will also be used in the proposed project.

SignalGeneriX Ltd: SignalGeneriX is a Cyprus-based SME that has grown out of several decades of industrial experience and consulting mainly in the UK. It was formed in Cyprus in 2004 with a vision to become a global leader in delivering state-of-the-art Communications and Digital Signal Processing solutions. Results from the on-going research and development have placed SignalGeneriX Ltd in a position such that now owns a widely based portfolio of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in the areas of core DSP algorithms, Communication Networks, Wireless and Generic Applications. The company, through its dedicated technical team, continuously researches and develops innovative applications to provide innovative research solutions to the industry. Since its establishment, SignalGeneriX Ltd is actively participating in local (Cyprus) and European (EC) research calls with great success. The company currently acts as a research partner in funded projects focused on Optical Networks, Medical Image Processing, Voice Authentication and Secure Mobile Communications. SignalGeneriXs custom simulation software for optical point-to-point communications will be utilized for the successful development of the software product proposed in this project.
