The project's mission is to promote research and innovation through addressing critical transport-related scientific, technological, educational and policy issues with a focus on distress detection, vulnerability, and traffic monitoring, in order to facilitate the safe and sustainable management of transport networks.
The vision of the proposed project is to gradually evolve into a national platform and DSS for the holistic vulnerability assessment of transport networks, tightly integrating with the Ministry of Transport’s traffic modeling platform and the Ministry’s opean data initiative. In this context, five are the defining attributes of RONDA:
(1) the establishment of a strong relation with a network of collaborators and stakeholders from the public and private sectors, from academia, NGOs and citizens;
(2) the promotion of locally-driven and internationally-recognised research on the condition assessment of roadway pavements and of traffic, the creation of innovation, and the facilitation of entrepreneurship;
(3) the facilitation of related long-term research in transport vulnerabilities by producing open-access data, models, and processes and by developing an open-source platform to support the aforementioned attributes (i) and (ii);
(4) the development of a “Living Lab” environment utilised for proof-testing the concepts/paradigms to be developed under the RONDA project;
(5) the alignment with Cyprus's Research Promotion Foundation's (CyRPF) latest strategic research priorities for the advancement of integrated solutions to contemporary national problems, the strengthening of sustainable development, the promotion of technological development and innovation, and the provision of cutting-edge solutions and services to the national scientific and professional communities.

The project's funded budget, of which approximately 30% is allocated to the consortium's industrial partners.
The project's duration, starting on 01 Nov. 2019 and ending on 30 Oct. 2022.
The city area which is the focus of the project and serves as the project's 'living lab'. The area is the Lakatamia Municipality in its entirety, having a population of about 40,000 residents.
The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Republic of Cyprus through the Cyprus Research & Technology Foundation ('RESTART 2016-2020' Program) (Grant No. INTEGRATED/0918/0056).
