LαΒ for Transport Engineering
The Lαb of Transport Engineering is a laboratory under the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of University of Cyprus. It was established in 2014, in order to play a key role in research and development activities in the field of Transportation both at national and international level. The Lαb for Transport Engineering was created with a vision of producing research of high international caliber, by providing scientific and engineering expertise for tackling real-life challenges and contributing to the achievement of objectives set by Europe. Research in the Lαb is wide-ranging and revolves around an inter-disciplinary approach for studying the transportation system as a whole. The Lαb has an excellent collaboration with national and international academic and public organizations and strives to become a Research Centre in Transportation that will provide cutting-edge research and solutions for transportation problems.
The Lαb emphasizes on transportation and operations research with the sole aim of analyzing transport phenomena and systems and introducing new technologies and techniques for the safe, economic, social and environmental design and operation of the transport system both within cities as well as between inter-urban areas. The selected thematic priorities include:
The researchers comprising the Lαb combine multi-disciplinary expertise and knowledge including the areas of Civil, Environmental and Surveying Engineering. Members of the Lαb represent the University in various committees, such as the “Council for Promoting Bicycle Use in Cyprus”, and the “Mobility Data Focus Group”. Furthermore, the members of the Lαb are active in grant proposal applications and have acquired funding for several research projects through the EU. Indicatively, projects include Interreg Greece-Cyprus (2007-2013) “PRODROMOS” (€1.900.000), Interreg-MED (2014-2020) “CAMP-sUmp” (€545.150).
